What is Speakers’ Corner?
A soapbox, a five-minute limit, and whatever you want to say with it.
Big Brue is as much about voices coming into Bruton as local voices going out — and Speakers’ Corner, right in the heart of the Festival Hub, is where that idea comes to life.
No experience needed, no topic too small. A sand-timer starts the moment you take the platform, and when time’s up, a handheld klaxon lets everyone know. Same rule for everyone.

Rules of engagement
Keep it fair, keep it safe — the rest is up to you.
- Five minutes. A sand-timer marks your slot; a klaxon sounds when time’s up.
- No marketing pitches. This is for ideas and opinions, not adverts.
- Say what you feel — respectfully. Foul language, impoliteness and discriminatory behaviour are not welcome.
- The host has the final word.
Safeguarding: Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult while on the festival site. We cannot admit anyone under 18 who arrives without an accompanying adult.
Photography and recording: Photography and video recording will take place during Speakers’ Corner. Images and footage may be used by Big Brue in its communications, publicity and promotional materials.
