Bob Geldof
Musician and activist
Sir Bob Geldof is an Irish singer-songwriter, author, broadcaster and campaigner. As frontman of The Boomtown Rats, he helped define a generation of music with songs including Rat Trap and I Don’t Like Mondays. He went on to co-write Do They Know It’s Christmas? and launch Band Aid, Live Aid and Live 8, transforming the relationship between popular culture, media and humanitarian action. His work has raised huge sums for famine relief and poverty campaigning, while challenging governments and institutions to act with greater urgency. In 2025, Geldof marked the 40th anniversaries of Band Aid and Live Aid, and published Live Aid: The Definitive 40-Year Story, co-written with Paul Vallely.
