Musician and activist
Bob Geldof is an Irish singer-songwriter and political activist who rose to prominence as the lead singer of The Boomtown Rats in the 1970s. He became a global figure through his humanitarian work, co-founding Band Aid in 1984 to raise funds for famine relief in Ethiopia, and organising the landmark Live Aid concert in 1985, followed by Live 8 in 2005. A tireless campaigner on poverty and development, he has remained an influential public voice for decades.
