Dione Roach
Artist, director of Jail Time Records
Dione Roach is an artist, filmmaker and prison arts campaigner whose work explores incarceration, creativity and social reintegration. While volunteering in Cameroon with the NGO COE, she began running painting, music and dance workshops inside Douala Central Prison, where she encountered a community of exceptionally talented incarcerated musicians and rappers. In 2018, she helped establish the original Jail Time Records studio inside the prison, creating a platform for artists whose voices would otherwise remain unheard. Working alongside producer and former inmate Vidou H, also known as Steve Happi, she has helped grow the project internationally. Her installations appeared in the Cameroon stand at the Venice Biennale, and her documentary Jail Time Records premiered at Arles Film Festival.
