James Harding

Journalist and broadcaster

James Harding is the co-founder and editor of Tortoise Media and incoming editor of The Observer. Formerly Director of News and Current Affairs at the BBC and editor of The Times, he has spent much of his career thinking about the future of journalism, trust and public debate in an age of political fragmentation and digital overload. Through Tortoise, he helped pioneer a slower, more reflective model of reporting centred on listening and long-form investigation. His work explores how media institutions can remain credible, independent and meaningful at a time when the relationship between information, power and democracy is under increasing strain.
